SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (FOR THE COLLECTIVE)

***PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BEFORE SUBMITTING***

Submissions are open in very specific time slots. All submissions must go to inaroomalonepress@gmail.com in that time slot.
Any submissions sent outside of the time slots will be automatically disregarded.

1 submission per person, per prompt.
Submissions must be based on the prompt.
ATTACH VIA PDF unless this distorts formatting - in this case, use Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

Please use following format for the email subject line:
SUBMISSION: PROMPT, GENRE (essay/poetry/fiction/art), ‘TITLE OF WORK’.
E.g. SUBMISSION: DYAD, POETRY, ‘PERFECT PAIR’.

Include in the submission your name, age, location, username. You’re encouraged to provide a short bio and/or relevant social media handles. If you would like to remain anonymous, provide a pseudonym. I will be choosing cover images, though you are welcome to include a cover image of your own or a cover image you have rights to/is of free use.

English, please, or provide English translation to your piece. Your work should be formatted and ready for publication. I will not change your piece without your permission. I will be proof-reading for grammar and spelling, and I will be changing American English to British English for consistency.

All work should be ORIGINAL. By submitting, you pledge you have all rights to all elements of your work, and you give me permission to publish it on IARA.

Submissions that disregard guidelines will be ignored because of restricted available time.

YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE A RESPONSE IF YOUR SUBMISSION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED.

ESSAY: Max 2000 words per submission. Include title, word count, brief pitch and citations (if any). Formal (academic) or informal (letters, stream of consciousness, journal entries, etc) are accepted.
POETRY: 1 poem per submission. Include title and have it formatted for publication - think line breaks and spacing.
FICTION: Max 2000 words per submission. Include title, word count and a brief pitch. You may submit a short story, an excerpt from a larger work, or a short script.

NOTES & ADVICE:

The interpretation of the prompt is up to the writer and is completely flexible, but evidence of prompt must be shown.

Please name your prompt something other than the prompt itself. The title can be a word up to a sentence. If you don’t include a title to your piece, it will be given the title “Untitled”.

The prompts exist to encourage the regular creation of original and bespoke work. You are encouraged to submit/continue to submit to other platforms other than IARA. If your work is published with rights elsewhere and wish for your piece on IARA to be taken down, please notify so your work can be removed here.

Don’t be discouraged if your work isn’t accepted. Try again next prompt!

IARA is a not-for-profit passion project, so it is unpaid.

FAQ

How often are prompts updated?
Since Hannah is working alone, it will entirely depend on her schedule. This means either she will update the prompt every month or every second / third month. She will try to establish a more regular pattern as she goes on.

Why is the submission period so short?
Having a shorter submission window helps filter and limit the volume of submissions.
The days prior to the submission window are intended to be spent creating work tailored to the prompt. The days post submission window are for Hannah to review submissions and curate posts before the next prompt.

Can I submit before or after the time slot given?
No, sorry! But don’t worry, you can try next prompt. You can upload your piece if you like to your socials and tag IARA!

Who can submit?
Anyone! There is no gender, age or locational limitations as the project is strictly online. IARA seeks to spotlight undiscovered writers and challenge established writers alike.

Does it cost money to submit?
No! The collective is free to submit, and accessible for all.

How will I know if my work has been accepted?
You will get a response from Hannah. Only accepted work will get a response. Please do not bump submissions, they will all be read, and the spam folder will be checked regularly.

How can I submit my manuscript to publish a poetry book with you?
This option is not yet available. Keep checking back.
